You can be passionate about various things at various times of your life. You don't have to be passionate about something 'forever'. I take up a new hobby for awhile and really get into it, then move on. THIS. This month I am passionate about sleep. No luck turning it into a habit, or better yet a paying gig, yet.

Re: Have you found your passion?
Yes, in addition to DH working full-time and I working part-time, we run a gun shop on the side. It is definitely our goal to make it a full-time proposition

Yep! Definitely found my passion: Animal Rescue. I built a fully functional "mini" house on my property to sustain my rescues. Very expensive passion/hobby but well worth it! I do this in addition to my full-time job as a marketing analyst - which is okay...just not my passion.

There are a lot of common passions out there - Performing of some sort - acting, music, dance, etc. - Sports of any kind - including golf - Games / competitions - like poker - Writing - maybe it creates something lasting
Why are these such common passions? Is it the rush from public adoration or winning?

I guess my passion is food and wine. I read food blogs just about every night, I collect cookbooks, and I'm always looking for new recipes. I also like studying restaurant menus for places I haven't been yet. Wow, I'm a sork. As for wine, I love searching for new wines and building my collection.
Right this very moment, my passion is my new kitten. I can't wait to get home and see Henry!

No, I haven't. I know all the advice out there is to "find your passion" but I really don't think I have one. In the past I used to worry that I was somehow defective since I didn't have one and "everyone else" did.
Last year I read a really good book on this that helped me realize yes, not everyone has A passion. Its: The Renaissance Soul: Life Design for People with Too Many Passions to Pick Just One. I highly recommend it.

Having standards isn't the same as snobbery. Drinking craft beers doesn't make someone a snob. Looking down on someone who drinks something different does.

Is drinking beer and sitting outside watching birds fight considered a passion? It's craft beer, if that makes a difference Otherwise, I got nothing

I like what I do. I believe in the mission of my company, and I have plans to move myself to an NGO international health organization in the next three years, because I very much believe in the work they do. Is that my passion? No, but its something I care about that pays me good money.
My passions are: dogs - I love helping people find the right pet for them, and have the retirement goal of running a rescue organization.
writing - as someone else mentioned, I have been telling myself stories for as long as I can remember. Now, I write them down. I've had some things published, which is nice recognition, I admit, but isn't necessary. Writing is necessary, at least for me.
Would it be nice if I could make a living writing and running my rescue? Sure, but its not likely. Which is fine. These are things I can work on in my spare time and still have the money to care for my DH and the two adorable creatures in my avatar.

Definitely found a passion for writing, mostly about food. I have written and published on other topics, but mostly about food, dining, restaurants and food politics. My focus tends to be on small places and producers, family establishments and single stores that are literally off the social map, have no Facebook, Twitter or other web presence. I was always a passionate letter-writer as a kid, and loved to write stories as a teenager. Writing for money as a freelancer is a hit-and-miss thing. I've been paid well for what I've done, and I enjoy it to the point where I could see doing it full-time in the near future.

I've had different passions in the past (photography and writing) but my current one is recycling and composting. I am on a mission to have a zero waste household, although I know that will probably be impossible. But, we currently only empty the kitchen garbage twice a month (family of 4 and we are home all the time) so I feel pretty good about that.
I volunteered last weekend with a local marathon and oversaw part of the garbage/recycling there. It was great to see an event with thousands of people produce so little garbage.
A passion I need to get back into is health. I lost 60lbs a couple years ago and really got into working out and lifting weights. I hurt my knee this spring and haven't been to the gym much. I need to get back into that - I saw Circle de Soleil last week and man those people are inspiring!
