My worst car was a '74 Ford Maverick. It had a 302 V8 and a electronic carburetor was jerry rigged onto it by my brother and his friends because we could not find a kit to re-build the old one. I remember after having it arrive at the house going out with hot water and bleach and scrubbing the vinyl seats to get the green/black mold off. And than scrubbing the carpeting.
I used to call her Maybel --- as in maybe it'll start. The steering was extremely loose and I would have to turn the wheel about three rotations before I would do a complete turn to the left. I used to run through regular gas at a really fast pace because of the electronic carburetor on that thing. I finally traded it in right when they were doing the changeover to all unleaded gasoline.
Than I got a POS '81 Subaru GLF - that car had sooo many issues especially electrical I finally sold it to a friends dad for $500 just to get it off my hands

I've never really owned a truly awful car, as it seems the really bad ones came out a decade or two before my time.
That being said, I will say that Volkswagens seem to fall apart around the 100k miles mark, and I wouldn't be surprised if even the newest ones ended up doing the same.

Well Found On Road Dead is etched into my brain because Ford was my maiden name, so I heard that a lot in school (My dad only drives Fords, I can't tell if it's a subliminal thing, or if he just likes crappy cars).

LOL I've owned one Ford (Windstar) and dumped it before transmission problems showed up (a mechanic told me it was starting to slip and I might want to think about getting rid of it)

My very first car was an '81 Volkswagon Rabbit (?) that I bought when I was 12. Did I ever drive it, even after depleting my bank account? NO. So not the worst car.
I couldn't even TELL you the make and model of the next car I bought. It lasted a grand total of 2 months. Still not the worst car.
A beautiful (to me) '75 Scottsdale 350 pickup truck. Shot a rod and put a hole in the oil pan while a 3 hour drive from home. At least that's what my 'friend' mechanic told me. Turned out that it was an easy fix after I sold him the truck for $150, he fixed it for $50, and drove it for years. STILL not the worst car.
1993 Buick Regal. Pure unadulterated evil. I put a CD player in that thing and it was never the same. Had to be jumped started EVERY DAMN TIME. Best thing I ever did was run it into the back of a tractor. And THAT was the worst car I've ever owned.

1993 Buick Regal. My 91 Regal is the best car I've ever owned. Too bad she's sitting in the weeds right now.

2002 Saturn. Started with $2000 worth of repairs at 22,000 miles and continued to get worse. I had a 1997 Saturn that was wonderful, but their quality went way down apparently. Saturn definitely had a break point - anything before it was excellent, afterwards, complete junk. I thought that point was '96, sounds like it was a little later. anyway, there was a change in upper management around that time (my uncle worked there, so I got the back story) and that's when it all started going downhill. I had a '94 SL2 that had 140k miles on it when I sold it as my stupid tax for graduating college. that was 10 years ago, and that little SL2 is still seen periodically around my hometown. I wonder how many miles are on it now.... as far as my own worst car, it would have to be Phyllis - a late-80s Chrysler LeBaron sedan, not convertible, in a lovely shade of dull gray. it would shake between 60-80 mph - I did mainly highway driving with this car, that sucked. towards the end of its life, it lost power steering and stability in handling. I ended up having to borrow it back from my younger sis when my above-mentioned SL2 was in the shop to repair damages caused by a tow truck just before graduation. Phyllis had a Rejection sticker at that point, and I think got retired not long after I got my SL2 back. This explains a lot. My worst car ever was a 2003 Saturn Ion. What a piece. Here is the fun I had with it... 2 miles- blown turn signal bulb 10 miles-blown turn signal bulb (This continues roughly every 50 miles and they will only replace the bulbs until the wiring harness melts at around 5k miles. Once the wiring harness on that turn signal is replaced, the problem quickly jumps to the other side. They still will only replace the bulbs-not the wiring harness until it melts. Am told by the dealer "Be glad you have the two door version, the four door one is even worse." They finally recall both models for this after I've had the car for 18 months) 15 miles- idles rough. Sounds like someone having an asthma attack and violently shakes while idling in traffic, at stop signs, etc. Am told that there is "nothing wrong with it" 10,000 miles- Dies while idling on a major interstate during rush hour traffic. Will not restart for half an hour (This was a load of fun as the car died in the middle lane and I couldn't get it off to the shoulder. Traffic started clearing up during the half hour so people would come flying around the bend at about 65 mph and then notice me sitting in their lane. I called the cops and a tow truck for help...neither came). Am told that "my driving must have caused the stall" (This is on an automatic). Argue with them and get the air controller replaced. Idling is slightly better. 18k miles- Car won't start and then will start and immediately die. Am told that I need a new battery and that the manufacturer wouldn't deal with it for 4 days because we have "extreme weather conditions in the area" (It was around 10 degrees but bright and sunny...not extreme for the northeast in January). Get them to tow it and it turns out the battery is fine but the ignition coils are bad. Those get replaced. 24k miles- Need new rotors and brakes. Still idles rough. At this point, I traded it in for a nice foreign ride. The dealer tried to sell it to a friend of mine who was car shopping a few days later. He told them that he "knew that car and wouldn't go anywhere near it".. ;D I think that the worst part about it was that Saturn didn't seem to care that the car was a hazard and was garbage. They didn't even apologize; just seemed to be of the mind that the customer has to tolerate the inferiority. Well, this customer doesn't have to tolerate it and I voted with my $$$.

1993 Buick Regal. My 91 Regal is the best car I've ever owned. Too bad she's sitting in the weeds right now. In all fairness, I think it was the people who put the CD player in who turned her bad. She was never the same after that! Something to do with the electrical, I think, which required the jump starting. But every time I tried to get a mechanic to look at her, they couldn't find anything wrong with her.

OMG that must have been awful! When I had my worst car (98 Taurus) it was not a fan of idling, either... there were a few times I was very afraid the same thing would happen to me.
My mom's POS Aerostar died on a two-lane bridge once... that was fun, too. Actually that may have been the last straw that inspired her to junk it.

Anything without the 3.8 motor I think my Windstar had that motor in it. Bad head gasket at less than 100k, I heard that was an issue with them. Now, on the other hand, the GM 3.8 motor is practically bullet proof.
